The son of Jesse Peterson and Lucretia (Curry) Cravens, Lamar Mirabeau Cravens (1837-1909) served as Confederate captain of the First Mississippi Cavalry Regiment’s Company F during the Civil War. In 1861, he married Martha Calfurnia Drake in Noxubee, Mississippi, and the couple had eight children before moving to Texas. Following the war, Cravens operated a farm and other businesses.
